Baby Schlyper: Week 6

2/1/13

At 6 weeks Baby Schlyper is the size of a Lentil.

Sleep Schedule: I've been going to bed around 8 p.m. and it's been awesome.

Clothes: Everything still fits just fine.

Movement:  Too early for any movement. But I'm really looking forward to this in the future.

What I Miss:  My energy. I just want to lay down and sleep All. The. Time.

Cravings:  Still really into soup. Chicken noodle, chili, tomato, broccoli cheese, etc.

Food Aversions:  I'm starting to steer clear of certain sweets. And for some reason the thought of donuts makes me ill. I haven't even had one but they just sound awful.

Symptoms: Complete lack of energy and sore breasts (hugs hurt).

Best Moment of the Week:  This was a roller coaster of a week for us. We went in on Monday (when we thought we were 6 weeks 3 days) for our first ultrasound. Since I had surgery with an RE back in October, we are going through her until we hit about 10 weeks. So she monitors us VERY closely.

We went in on Monday and she started taking measurements and saw a heart beat...but everything was small and slow. We were immediately concerned but then she realized that perhaps our dates were wrong. The baby was measuring 5 weeks 6 days. She asked to see us again Friday to make sure the heart rate was rising as it should.

Friday rolls around and I'm a ball of nerves. We begin the ultrasound and our doctor says "I'm concerned. I can't seem to find a heart beat." Which I can't even begin to tell you how completely soul crushing that is. Rian squeezed my hand as we prepared for the worst. But right at the end she began to catch a flicker and said "Well, hold on. Now I'm getting a heartbeat but I'm still not completely comfortable. I'd like you to go to an imaging center where they have stronger machines."

So we raced off to the imaging center in a total panic. The second we started our ultrasound the tech immediately said "Oh hi baby. Strong heartbeat at 120 and measuring 6 weeks 3 days." Praise the Lord! What a relief.  Our initial thoughts were confirmed- we were a bit earlier than we thought we were. Our due date was adjusted back a few days and our baby is measuring right on track. It's amazing the difference a few days can make so early on in a pregnancy.

But seriously...that was an emotional day.

Looking Forward To:  Telling my family. My parents are wonderful and I really can't wait to share this news with them.  I think my mom in particular is going to flip out! And that makes me so excited :)
